Labour MP and former Home Secretary Alan Johnson has thrown his weight behind Sue’s campaign for Workington constituency.
During a visit to West Cumbria, the well-respected former cabinet minister took time out to give Sue his full support ahead of the General Election campaign.
“Sue is a first-class candidate and I know she will do a superb job for local people,” he said.
“She already has a reputation within the Labour movement for hard work and getting things done, and I know she will bring that same approach to Westminster.
“I’m looking forward to working with Sue in Parliament to help get Britain back on track after the damage done to so many people’s lives by this dreadful, self-serving, Tory-led coalition government.”
Alan has been the Labour MP for Hull West for 18 years, and served as Health Secretary and Education Secretary as well as Home Secretary during the last Labour governments.
Recently he has also written two widely-acclaimed autobiographies, “This Boy” and “Please, Mr Postman”, which tell the story of his deprived childhood, his life as a postman and his rise through the trade union movement and Parliament to become one of the most respected politicians of our time.
Sue said: “Alan is hugely respected throughout the country, not just by Labour voters, so to have his support for my campaign is fantastic. I hope to welcome him back to West Cumbria in the future.”
