Sue has today thrown her support behind the National Farmers Union’s #BackBritishFarming campaign in Parliament.
Sue and MPs from the Shadow Environment team joined members from across the House of Commons, including Jeremy Corbyn and Labour’s Shadow Cabinet, in demonstrating their support for Britain’s vital agricultural industry, by wearing wheat pin-badges during Prime Minister’s Questions, and joined representatives from the National Farmers Union at a lobby in Parliament.
“Our farming industry needs to be at the heart of our economy after Brexit.
“That’s why as Shadow Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Secretary, I’m proud to support the NFU’s campaign, along with my Shadow Ministers, Holly Lynch and David Drew, and I am thrilled that the Shadow Cabinet are backing the campaign too.
“I enjoy getting out and about across the constituency to meet farmers and workers in the agriculture sector. They are faced with a lot of challenges, from flooding to the threat of cheap imports, and I will be their champion in Westminster. I want to see farms in Cumbria and across the UK flourish.
“Labour is committed to getting the best possible deal for British farmers to ensure the future of our countryside, public health, jobs and world-class produce for generations to come.”
